I went crappie fishing on the 20th of October and had a great trip. My partner and I boated 70-80 crappie. Of course we only kept the limit which is sixty. Crappie right now on Guntersville are biting fairly well. We started fishing jigs fairly shallow and ended up finding them in 15 feet of water. Fish are concentrating on thread fin shad and if you can find shad you will find the crappie. The jigs my partner and were using were crystal shad bassassassins and cotton candy tube jigs. With these, a 1/16 oz jig head was used. Tried minnows and did catch a few but the fish seem to show preference towards the jigs. All fish were caught of of my feeders and tree tops. There was one negative about the trip. The fish were small and averaged around 10.5 inches. There were lots that did not make the 9 inch limit. We need some cool weather to come back in and with that in mind the bigger fish will show back up. Goodluck and wear those life jackets!
