A summer time crappie will actually grab a minnow in his mouth
with out ever putting tension on the line and suck out the
minnows eyes. look close next time after you have been fishing
a minnow tight lined for a while without a bite. He could be missing his eyes

i think the eyes were probably removed by bluegill. How are your minnows hooked when this occurs ?? thru the tail, back, lips, EYE SOCKETS ??? Often when I use minnows deadline for crappie I will get very small bluegill hitting on the minnow - I hook my minnows thru the eye sockets - most of the time if a bluegill gets to the minnow before a crappie does it will have one of the following : a skinned tail, eyeball(s) missing, or it's throat cut. I would think that if a crappie put a minnow in it's mouth it would be trying to eat it and therefore would : swallow it, swim off with it, or spit it out. I could be wrong....but then I don't scuba nor do I have an aquaview camera so I can't watch what they do.....I'm just happy when they DO BITE !! ..............cp

you could be right. My guess it was crappie was due to the fact that i have had this happen in 35 to 40 feet of water. I did'nt really think the bluegills would be down that deep

I have caught huge Bluegill in deep water on jigs, while fishing for crappie!

I GUESS THE ONLY WAY WE WILL KNOW IS IF SOMEONE GETS AN UNDERWATER CAMERA AND VIDEOS THE FISH ACTUALLY DOING IT

I was hoping you might have some info on this area. I have an upcoming tourney here and am coming from florida. I am going in totally blind and was hoping you might give me tips or hints or any kind.
