Thanks Rickey for your concern. My wife is doing well and the cancer is in remission. We caught it early and feel the chances are excellent that it will not return. We are regrouping and moving on.

During my lifetime, I have owned 2 Johnson motors: a 35 hp and a 10 hp. That probably sorta dates me. I think they are excellent motors. Concerning the two stroke vs. the four stroke, I don't know how much difference environmentally the four stroke will really make. One other reason I failed to mention for buying a four storke is that I have looked long and hard to find a place where I can feel confident that the fish are good to eat and the water is not contaminated. I grew up over in Mississippi near the Noxubee Wildlife Refuge and have learned that the tests they perform on the water there shows no problems. That is where I had planned to do most of my fishing and it is where I have caught all the fish we have kept to eat. I know the lakes pretty well there. I think there will come a time in the near future that the wildlife refuges will require all boaters to have four strokes, although that will be a number of years away. Of course, I may be wrong. The grandfathering of two strokes may be for all time even on the wildlife refuges.

I am thinking about going over to Noxubee tomorrow (Friday) and try my luck jigging for crappie in some of the deep portions of Bluff Lake. Might as well use the boat until I sell it. As you can probably tell, I haven't tried very hard to sell it yet. Hummm. Wonder what that means. Later.

Good luck with the cancer. My best wishes are with you!

As for the 4-strokes, I too bought my Yamaha 15, 4-stroke for reasons that definitely include polluting less. Also, I think they really reclaim the extra cost faster than most folks realize. For example, you don't have to add 2-cycle oil to EVERY tank of gas. Not to mention trying to measure that oil when you are filling a partially emply tank. Add to that the fact that 4-stroke (at least my 15 hp Yamaha) motors are much quieter and all the maintenance I do (actually more than is scheduled) is to change the motor crankcase oil and foot oil about every six months. I think I use mine more than most fishermen, so I think this is a great trade off and costs MUCH less!

In any case, I think we will soon see the day when 2-cycle motors are no longer available. Whether due to legislation for environmental concerns, or just because people realize how much cleaner and efficient the 4-strokes are.

Sorry to hear about the medical problems. Here's wishing you the best!
