I am thinking of adding a fish-finder/depth-finder to my boat but don't have a clue as to features, manufactures, specs., etc. I need to look for. Before going to a store to talk to a salesperson, I am wondering if anyone can give me some advise on what on where to start. If anyone has a device they especially like, I would appreciate knowing about it. I mainly fish for bream and crappie.
How's it going Rickey and Kerry? Any luck lately?

I use a Garmin 240. I have been well pleased with the reliability of the unit and the quality of the graphics. I would suggest giving this unit a try. The cheapest price that I found on one was at www.onlinemarine.com . Try it out!

I want to pass along a word of warning:
Avoid doing business with onlinemarine.com
They’re nothing but trouble! I ordered a GPS system (about $500). They took my money, but didn’t deliver the merchandise. I’ve tried contacting them many times via email, FAX, telephone, and online instant messenger – No Response. If it weren’t for the credit card bill, I’d think the company doesn’t exist. They look good on the web, but they’re trouble!
In addition, I've searched several online reviews of retails. Onlinemarine.com ranks very low. There are many stories similar to mine.

I agree with Mr. RW. The 200 DX is a very nice unit for the money. Also a cheap way to get water temps is to go to Radio Shack and get one of their indoor/outdoor digital thermometers. I think they run about $10 and are cheaper than getting the temp unit on a D-Finder.

I bought a Hummingbird 200dx about a year ago and am very satisfied with it. They make several models but the 200 is about in the middle.I recall it being around 120-130 dollars. You can get the transducer that will tell you water temp but I did not. I wrote the humminbird web site and asked just how much of the bottom you really see, and they told me for every ten feet of water you see 5 feet of the bottom. So say in 20 feet of water you,ll see 10 feet of the bottom on you screen.30 feet of water you,ll see 15 feet of the botom on your screen. So as a guide line however deep the water you,ll see about half the depth as the actual bottom on the screen.Mine has fish alarm which you can adjust the small, medium or large fish.I have been very satisfied with mine and the web site is good too it may answer some of your questions .I bought mine at Wal-mart but you might try Cabels,s as they sometimes offer extras with your order such as a bag or better transducer, temp, speed etc at no extra charge.I,d try Humminbird,s web site first just to see what they have and maybe it will help................Ricky W.
