I quit fishing the lake once the water came up. I was having some success before the rains. The colors prefered were red/red/chart and red/red/white. I plan to start fish Smith again when the water clears.
Be careful on the lake, my brother busted up his motor on sat by hitting a submerged piece of wood from a boat house. He now owns a 9 month old 186 triton with a chunk broke off the foot of the motor
He even saw a boat that was sunk in rock creek. the tip of the boat was barely floating.
Smith Lake has more trash on it than the warrior. All the construction and people who don't care leave all their crap on there boat house and it ends up in the water. Years ago you never saw trash in the lake and you sure didn't see all the houses.

"hi", i live 20 minutes from Howton's Camp on the Warrior A-N-D have a place on Smith Lake as well...after growing up fishing the Warrior and then being fortunate enough to acquire 6 acres on Smith 10 year's ago i can honestly say that there's no way on earth that there's more "trash/stuff/junk" on Smith Lake than the Warrior...Warrior has soooo many floating logs then DUMPED GARBAGE because it's a free-flowing river AND is predominately Wild/Pristine and unihabited for a great part, also is traversed by many barges and such...just info. to pass around...

I was on vacation last week. I fished Smith each day beginning on Sat. 22nd until this past Friday. Fished Sipsy each day except Thursday when I tried Brushy. I ended up with 174 for the week. Monday was my best day with 36. By the end of the week most had laid. They were begining to move back out on the tops 4-6 feet deep. Looks like it will be over in a couple of weeks. Water is very clear now. Lake level @ 508.0
