Crappie finally heating up on Smith. Caught 43 last Saturday. 15 or so were 1 to 1 1/2 lb nice slabs. Fished tops down to 15 feet with no luck. Finally found them 1 1/2 to 3 ft deep in 6 foot water. This is good for Smith lately but still too slow for me. Anyone been to Tombigbee and especially Forkland?

I fished Smith all last week. Caught 174 all week with Monday being my best day @ 36. By this past Friday most had laid. They appear to be starting to move back out on the tops a little deeper. I know this is early but I think the best days for smith are about over this year. You should be able to catch them for the next couple of weeks as they move back out and deeper. This cold front may slow that process a little.

You think they've laid already? I would have guessed they are just starting on Smith. Anyway, water dropped and messed up my hole so I might as well try tops and going deeper again. Hear they're wearing them out nights under dock lights.

I fished Smith again this Saturday. Some have still not laid. However, it appears most have. I ended up with 19 keepers. Caught alot of small fish. Water is very clear other than all the pollen floating on top.
Water level @507.5. I don't understand why they are lowering the lake so early this year. Certainly can't help the spawn.
