Mike, you have some great fishing going on right here in Hickory, NC. I run the bait shop in Sawmills, NC. Grizzlies Bait and Tackle. We specialize in crappie trolling supplies. Give me a call at (828) 396-8559 and I will tell you what the guys are bringing cooler full of slabs in on. They are catching lots of fish in the one to two pound range. Our big fish pot is being won weekly on the average at 1lb 12ozs. I encourage you to fish all the lakes but Hickory is hot!

We got to fish Cowan Creek 3 days last week between all the storms, tornado warnings, and east winds. The weather had driven the crappie off the banks and back into the deep water at the bridge and the 15-16 ft water into the creek. We trolled and drifted depending on conditions. Tues (18 keepers) and Thurs (15 keepers) we caught them on white/green/green & white/blue/white Hal-Flys, but with the water getting muddy Friday (19 keepers), we switched to char/red/char curly tail grubs. Crappie were scattered everywhere. Caught loads of small crappie, yellow bass and catfish. We managed to bring home 52 nice crappie despite the weather we faced. Had several 12/13 inch crappie so trip wasn't a complete bust. The web site listed on the other post is a very good site for info. Steve's a guide at Weiss and tells you where, how and what to use depending on how he's doing. Good luck.

Check out www.lakeweissguideservice.com They have a great fishing report. I fished Weiss last Thur-Sat. Caught alot of small fish and several keepers. Most of the Big fish were coming from 18-20 ft water about 12 ft deep. Check out the web site, don't know the guy but he seems to tell what he knows. We fished Cowan, Spring, Muddy, Godfrey Three Mile. Good Luck
