I need some help. I have never been to Lake Weiss. I am planning a trip in the middle of July. Where can I expect the fish to be. (Probably Deep) Also I have still not decided on the campground yet. I have a travel trailer and plan on staying a week. Any cmpgrounds that anyone prefers. Where can I purchase a map of the lake? I will probably be fishing at night alot because of the hot weather... Thanks for the info....

You can pick up a map at pretty much any Wal-Mart store. The fish will mostly be deep. The Chatooga area would probably be a great place to start.

Pnut, As far as your map: Centre Motel - 1401 Main St Centre, Al 35960....... 1-800-499-1401 They have a good map with the coves all marked and labeled. Try Riverside RV Park to stay. I don't have an RV but I here its ok. The fish will be deep, good luck, Sometimes in July I catch a few in Yellow Creek across the street from the store along the channel edge. It seems that the water is a bit cooler coming out of the creek even though it's only about 2-12ft along the creek channel. Be sure and try to catch some Stripe there should still be a few running about that time, just watch and follow the birds, have your drag on your ultralight low so the big ones can run and youll be having fun. Are you fishing in a boat? If not, try night fishing under the bridges. If you reply with your email, I will give you mine and can maybe direct you a little better as time gets closer. Good Luck Scott

pnut stay awway from the chatooga side the water is too warm that time of the year, but the yellow river is a good idea. If you fish ther do it in the morning and at night because it is usually crowded during the day. My pick for optimal all day fishing for bass, bream, stripe etc can all be found where little river comes into lake weiss. it is always at least 5 degrees cooler here and it is deep. Wolf creek also comes into the lake at the same place but it is not as cool, but in this area you will be out of the wind. The best time i have found to fish wolf creek is in the evening because it is shallow and stumpy, but it is cooler so at night use alot of flukes and trickworms in the grasses. This area of wolf creek and little river is also regarded as one of the best stripe places on the lake at that time of year especially when bream are bedding. I reccomend catching small bream and then ging bck out of the river mouth and fish right under the power lines. just ask anybody at the lake where the power lines are at i little river and they will know what you are talking about unless they are fishing there yourself. If you have any questions about the lake I love to talk and teach. The map can be found at any convenience store it will not be a problem. When you get to weiss lake I would recomend going to J.R.'s marina and ask him about the fishing his son is also a guide for the lake. J.R.'s is a good place to launch and there is a camp ground next door that is ok but there are nicer, but if you are only staying for a couple of days it will work and it also has deep water. Make reservations quick because july is a popular month at lake weiss. Be careful going into little river and be sure to stay in channell in the channel it is anywhere from 12-30 ft deep but on the edge of the channel in most places it is 2-3ft deep.
