Looking for a place to fish in the Huntsville area for a smaller boat w/ small outboard. Are there any small lakes/ponds or larger waters with fishable idle zones, hp restrictions, etc?

Thanks in advance!

How small? Lot's of places on Wheeler Refuge that offer some good crappie fishing in the spring. You can get a map off their website. Madison County Lake (New Market) has decent #'s of crappie but the size can be smaller. Guntersville lake (Guntersville) has a lot of access points that do not require long runs with good fishing to be had after you figure them out. Wheeler Lake (Decatur) had a lot of backwater areas around Swan Creek WMA that you could drop in a small boat and do well once the fish have moved shallow. Wilson (Florence)had some really big crappie and is my favorite since it doesn't get the amount of crappie fishing pressure as other area lakes but it a deep water lake with limited access. Still, you could put in on Shoal Creek and find plenty of areas to fish within a short boat ride.
Good luck and good fishing.

Thanks Smalljaws! It's a 12ft (w/ 7.5hp) row boat. Really just a beginner & like to fish for catfish and others. Been to the city park Brahan Springs about a week ago- it looks nice & caught one crappie from the bank. I'd like to find somewhere close & shallow & free to launch.
