The Salmon Classic FREE Fishing Tournament

Dockside Weigh Stations will be established. All fisherman, young and old are welcome! Look to The News Sun everyday of the tournament for standings.

 Why not increase your chances of reeling In that big one by chartering a boat from the knowledgeable captains of the Waukegan Charter Boat Association. Fish caught from the pier or private boats are also welcome.


Salmon Classic Contest Rules

1. Contest to be known as the Salmon Classic. Sponsors: The News Sun, Johnson Outboards, Sea Nymph, City of Waukegan, First Midwest Bank, Pace Communication, Waste Management, National Material, Dexter, Waukegan Charter Boat Association, North Point Charter Boat Association, Waukegan Port District, North Point Marina, Budweiser/Bud Light, Salmon Unlimited.

2. Species of fish that may be entered in the contest:

Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Chinook Salmon, Brown Trout

3. Contest open to anyone with a valid Illinois Fishing License who wishes to enter a fish legally caught in the contest waters, under Illinois Department of Conservation regulations. All participants must have a valid 1998 Illinois fishing license unless exempted by Illinois state laws. Employees of official Claiming Stations, Information Only Stations, and commercial fishermen are not eligible.

4. Contest waters are Lake Michigan open waters along the Lake County shoreline between the Illinois/Wisconsin state line on the north to the Lake/Cook County line on the south.

5. All fish must be weighed in at the official Weigh Stations established by the Lake County Fishing Tournament Council. Weigh stations will be established at Waukegan Harbor and North Point Marina. Weigh station hours are 10am to 7pm.

6. Any angler who catches a potential prize-winning fish must personally take the fish to the official Salmon Classic Weigh Station for official verification. This is the angler's responsibility. Fish not verified by Salmon Classic headquarters will not be considered qualified. Fish caught after the weigh station closes must be taken to the weigh station the following morning.

7. Fish will be judged by weight, if two or more fish are the same weight, (within .01 pounds or within on hundredth of a pound ), longest length will determine the winner. If weight and length are identical, a winner shall be decided by a drawing held by the Lake County Fishing Tournament Council. In the event of a dispute, decision of the judges appointed by the Council shall be final.

8. A contestant may enter more than one fish, but no individual may win more than one prize. A person who wins a Grand Prize can not win a weekly prize.

9. A separate entry form must be properly filled out for each fish entered in the contest. All entry forms will be used in the drawing for special prizes. Names of winners, locations where fish were caught, bait used and pictures become property of the Lake County Fishing Tournament Council. This information may be used for publicity purposes. All winning first-place fish will be kept on display at the official Salmon Classic weigh stations, until verification by the contest judges.

10. Special Sweepstakes Prizes: After all fishing entries are judged each week, entry blanks of all non-winners will be entered in a drawing to be held at the conclusion of the Salmon Classic Tournament.

11. Prize winners are responsible for all applicable taxes.
